Formerly the local surf club and a cafe, The Bay House has evolved into exclusive 'island style' accommodation offering luxury beachside studios and stylish garden suites in an idyllic and peaceful setting, 20 metres from the ocean's edge.
Tauranga Bay, Maori for 'sheltered anchorage', is 16kms south of Westport and 57kms north of Punakaiki on the West Coast of South Island. We're situated just off the main tourist route SH6, halfway between Abel Tasman National Park and Glacier Country (3.5 to 4 hours drive time either direction) or approx. 4 hours from Christchurch via the Lewis or Arthur's Pass.
Our unique seaside location is a just a stone throw from the Tasman Sea and 1 km from the Fur Seal Colony. Step out of your beach studio or garden suite, walk just 20 to 50 metres and you are on the beach. There are rock pools to fossick or bathe in, soft golden sands to stretch out on, amazing surf to play in (lessons available) and short strolls or long walks all around.
