A cosy, kiwi camping ground, Possum Lodge is a traditional camping ground the way they used to be, filled with loads of character on the edge of Lake Manapouri.
It is considered “one of the prettiest lakes in the world”. Possum Lodge also lies adjacent to the mouth of the lower Waiau River, ideal for trout fishing. Nestled in native forest, which is very peaceful, apart from the native birds’ dawn chorus. Safe, clean and friendly.
This lake side accommodation offers guests a unique opportunity to wander through native forest to the sandy shores of the lake or take a picturesque stroll along the riverside through the beech trees .
A delightful eight minute walk will lead you to Pearl Harbour, the Doubtful Sound cruises departure point. Close and convenient to a number of NZ’s Great Walks. Explore the beautiful scenery of the nearby Kepler Track, Milford Track and the Routeburn Track. Manapouri’s circle track has a stunning birds’ eye view of the lake.
Enjoy a cruise on Milford Sound, an enjoyable two hour drive from Manapouri. Local cafes, restaurants and a post office are a short walk from Possum Lodge.
